I was given access to quite a few really good pictures for this layout on Peruvian folk art. I chose the three that I did because they showcase the work of the artist as well as one of his featured students at work on some of the art. I chose the head and deck that I did because I wanted to express an emphasis on what makes Orellana's artwork stand out from other Peruvian folk art.The pictures pretty much tell the story so I decided not to include graphics and stuck to a simple color scheme.

Cover Design for Final Production
Here is the final copy of the cover layout:
Here is the original draft:
I used red and blue because I felt it works well with the context/content of the story titles. All of the font sizes range from 20 - 48. I decided to stick to one font for the feature story titles. I picked Bernard MT Condensed because I felt that it flows with the quirky theme of the magazine title. I also outlined the titles that applied color to in order to make them stand out even more so than they already do.

California Beach Layout
This is the final draft for the three picture layout. I decided to eliminate some of the empty space by making some of the pictures bigger. I fixed the balance between the head and the deck by making the thin-lettered head a little bigger and the bold-lettered deck smaller. I also added a little more background info to try and establish the story a little better.

The Wanderer Logos
These are my first few choices for the logo of the travels journal.I tried to find the most casual and adventurous fonts for the cover if the magazine just because I feel like that is what the content of the magazine will incorporate. I also preferred the title to read "The Wanderer" over "The Student Wanderer" just because I felt it was catchier and more to the point. It also appeals to a wider audience.

Black and White Composition
I interpreted what I thought would be a visually appealing black and white layout by using all of the shades in between the two colors. The gradient from white to black at the top of the page works as a sort of palette and anchor for the rest of the page. It is easy to see where the text would placed on the layout. The crystal shapes direct you, so to speak, to where the actual text would be. Not only do they lead the eye to the text but they also add a 3d element to the page. The way the crystals seam to poke through the black bar at the top of the page makes the crystal looks like it is popping off of the page.
